International Women’s Day: A woman’s strength.

Dear girls, chicks, maidens, ladies – best wishes!
As 8th March is celebrated as International Women’s Day, I would like to commemorate it by making a list of movies centered on so-called ‘softer sex’. Paradoxically, I focused on one of the greatest qualities of a woman – strength. While this trait is often associated with men and the power of their muscles, the feminine kind has been gifted with the unbelievable power of mind and heart.

Unfortunately, there are many regions of the world, countries, villages or even invidual houses where women and girls struggle with difficulties, violence and discrimination, not to mention extremely savage ritual of female genital mutilation.
My intention is to draw attention to these serious problems happening in many places, perhaps even in your neighbourhood, and to honor and support the suffering ones.

And now back to the movies. Some of these stories are based on true events. All of them raise awareness of various matters. In every film listed below there is at least brave female who has a courage to make a choice, make a change, take the law into her hands.

Enjoy!

Die Frau des Schläfers (2010)
Arranged (2007)
Desert Flower (2009)
Et maintenant, on va où? (2011)
The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler (2009)
Brick Lane (2007)
The Hunger Games 1&2 (2012, 2013)
